PARKS AND RECREATION

Anderson’s character is also enhanced by the natural elements surrounding it.  Mounds State Park contains some of the finest examples of earthwork and mound building built by the Adena and Hopewell cultures believed to be around 160 B.C.  The mounds vary in height and were used for ceremony, celebration and tracking celestial bodies.

Rangeline Nature Preserve is a 180-acre nature area enjoyed by hikers, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts. Its bike trails have received a lot of care making it one of the most technical & exhilarating trails to ride.  Shadyside Park covers 80-plus acres including two lakes used for fishing and recreational (non-motorized) boating, as well as walking and hiking trails – the perfect setup for nature enthusiasts. Walkers also pass by the Shadyside Bait & Café at the park for bait & tackle supplies and food for park users.

If you’re looking for different level of horsepower – put your helmets on!  there’s the Little 500 or the Redbud 400 hosted by the Anderson Speedway , one of the most legendary short tracks in the country.
