Edgewood/South Edgewood is a suburb just skirting the boundaries of Anderson, Indiana and is one of the best places to live in Madison County. Appropriately named Edgewood, after the realtor William Elder laid out the town in 1907 at the edge of nearby woods, it has become a well-established community since General Motors developed it in 1916 as a suburb for its workers. Today this planning is evident when you see mature trees lining the streets of well-kept homes – both historic & newer construction. 

EDUCATION

For young families, access to schools is a primary concern and the Edgewood Elementary School is right in its backyard. Fortunately its proximity to Anderson and its extensive network of schools under ACS (Anderson Community Schools) that are all within 2 to 5 miles from Edgewood allow for a smooth transition for its students into middle and high schools.  Anderson also offers superior higher education with its colleges and technical schools, putting Edgewood in a good position and offering its families the flexibility of many great choices.  

PARKS AND RECREATION

Taking a cue from its immediate surroundings of lush trees, Edgewood extends this love for the outdoor with its green spaces and parks such as Edgewood Park and Woods Park, where adults enjoy walking, hiking and running while kids gravitate to its playgrounds.

Another great way to unwind is to book some tee time at the Edgewood Golf Course – just come for the day or get a season pass, and bring family & friends to enjoy the club’s menu!

Longfellow Woods Clubhouse is a private facility that’s been a long time favorite for families to rent and host events. Recently the club has resurfaced its tennis & basketball courts, adding pickle ball courts to the delight of sports enthusiasts.  

For those who enjoy biking, hiking, birding, fishing or just being outdoors – a 5-mile drive northeast brings you to the Killbuck Wetlands fed by the Killbuck Creek where it connects to the famed White River.

RESTAURANTS & LOCAL INTERESTS

Dotted along Nichol Avenue and just off it are the town’s mainstay favorites.  There’s TM Norton’s Brewing Company featuring live performances and karaoke nights that blend well with its laid-back, fun vibe – its family-friendly atmosphere and gastropub fare are a hit, as well as their free popcorns! Its namesake original brewery – the TM Norton Brewery had a historic run from 1866 to 1937!

Scampy’s Annex seem to be everyone’s “go to” place for its trio of P‘s – pizza, pasta and paninis. It’s certainly a little restaurant that delivers big on taste and value!

Nerdy BBQ is another stalwart where customers come from far & wide to get their fill of pulled pork, brisket, ribs, pork belly and everything in between. It seems the main complaint is when they run out of food!

Fields of Joy describes exactly what it is. What started as a u-pick strawberry farm has been transformed by a husband & wife team into a field producing vegetables & flowers with their kids tending to the farm animals. Picking flowers and building your own bouquets have been bringing smiles to countless grateful customers!
